Hi. It’s been a while… | South Florida Boudoir Photographer
Hi, it’s been a while. Like a really long time. I don’t really know what happened here. But I can try to sum it up for you (and me).
Since I last shared a boudoir session on the journal, Alexandra’s birthday boudoir session — was in April 2021. I was in the thick of gaining back a normal workflow but truly not really normal since we were opening back up due to COVID shut down, and everyone wanted a session. I was super busy, life happened, and add the fact that I was four months into therapy and feeling hella vulnerable… being present here fell off my priority list. That is just the honest truth friends. However, I don’t know any other way to share my work with you other than here and so I thought, I want to start sharing on the journal again. I am an over-thinker, so I obviously have given this A LOT of thought. I’m talking days turning into weeks, weeks into months, and months turning into… well, here we are.
I asked myself: what do I post? what do I say? how do I explain my absence? I self-sabotaged my own comeback to the journal because I couldn’t decide on what to talk about. So here we are. Without an intentional topic, other than me being completely honest about what I’ve been up to and what is currently on my mind.
If you’ve been following me along on Instagram, then you sort of know what I’ve been up to. But if you haven’t been following along, then here’s a little recap of what I’ve been doing:
morning latte photos
lots and lots of hot yoga
reading many fiction novels and art books
buying more art books
behind the scenes of boudoir sessions
also sharing about my therapy journey (more on that at a later time, but only if you want to know)
after 16 yrs, took a trip to my home country Dominican Republic
And I am fresh off a quick winter trip to Boston with my friends which left me yearning for really warm weather (lol), yet super inspired. I was able to catch the Life Magazine photography exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, had lots of trips to Tatte for coffee and yummy treats, and visited one of the oldest used bookstore’s in the nation, Brattle Book Shop. Needless to say, Boston, I love that you hold so much history and I am coming back to see you again :)
Boston left me feeling rejuvenated and inspired, so much so that I started thinking, what inspires me about my work? One element stood out the most for me, and that was Polaroids. When I get to shoot Polaroids during a client’s session, I feel inspired to create one-of-a-kind portraits. For me, shooting Polaroids is exhilarating. Because of its analog attributes, shooting polaroids forces me to be intentional with what I want to capture and truly think about how I want the end result of the image to be. As a result, magical moments are captured. Beautiful images that are not manipulated through editing or some post-production software are created. Truly one-of-a-kind timeless artful boudoir portraits of the woman in front of me. Moments I get to share with her, moments she gets to keep for a lifetime to come.
So… I decided that I wanted to come back to the journal by sharing with you a collection of different polaroid portraits. In this collection, you’ll see both boudoir and portrait work from various sessions that took place between 2019 and 2022. Some of these you may have seen on my Instagram, and some you may not have seen at all. I am very excited for you to see these, and I look forward to being more present here for you (and me).
xo, Denice ✨
