Why Authenticity Matters | Portraits in Point Dume, Los Angeles, California Destination Photographer
Today, I want to talk to you about the importance of why authenticity in your portrait sessions matters.
If you have ever thought about investing in a Portrait Session for yourself, more than likely you are having photos taken because you want to celebrate something. You may be celebrating yourself, a milestone, or an achievement. When you surrender yourself to having your portrait taken, I personally think it is incredible and brave! Getting in front of a camera and having someone else see you in a way you have never been seen before requires courage. Because let me let you in on a little secret… portrait sessions place you in a vulnerable position. I believe that there is beauty in vulnerability. And it’s quiet easy to be distracted with our daily responsibilities, our families, and Netflix, right? But when a Woman chooses me as their photographer, it is my goal to create a safe space where vulnerability is invited. Where vulnerability is celebrated, and where vulnerability promotes rawness and remains in truth.
I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am a highly emotional person. I feel so much and my mind is loud. One of the things that I always strive for in my work is to take portraits with intention. I know that this stems from within me and being in tune with my emotions. Every single thing I do in my personal and professional relationships, I do with intention. I constantly require quiet time to not only center myself, but also hear my thoughts and give them space to be felt. I share this with you, because it is a similar process I take my clients on to create authentic portraits.
Below are three important key points that I use personally to create authentic and unique portraits for each Woman that I photograph:
Identify Your Why
Surrender your truths, write them down, and sit with them. Find the why in your truths and this will lead you to an authentic portrait session experience.
There Is Art in Vulnerability
Now that you have surrendered to your truths and why, open yourself to vulnerability. When we speak in truth and remain faithful to ourselves and our emotions, we create openness.
Your Story
Now that you have placed yourself in a state of openness, we are ready to tell your story. Raw, authentic, and 100% you.
In these portraits of J.M. Polynice in Point Dume, I wanted to capture how regal and timeless she is. She exudes an artful mystery that is undeniable, her gaze takes you 1,000 miles beyond what meets the eye. She has many stories, and holds them all near to her. It was truly captivating to photograph her where the land meets the sea in a never ending dance. It was beautiful, vulnerable, and 100% her.
Behind the Scenes
This is how J.M. Polynice does selfies. She is constantly seeing and documenting. It is truly a gift. You can follow her work at Quinn Moss, and catch her over at For the Coffee Culture for all you coffee and coffee shop lovers.
I Am Here To Tell Your Story
Boudoir extends to more than just taking a portrait of a woman in delicate lace lingerie. Boudoir portraiture is vulnerable. It seeks truth for both the artist and the muse. As a boudoir photographer, my heart’s desire has always been to create boudoir imagery that uplifts and inspires Women.
The connections I am able to make with Women are unforgettable. I believe that to feel the unknown is the most beautiful form of creation. Everyone has a gift within them. Something to give, a story to tell. I want to be there to capture your inner self and help tell that story.
This is my wish for you: for you to experience a celebration of yourself like never before! To connect with whom you are on a deeper level, because you are deserving of your love.
