HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It’s 2019 and I am feeling refreshed and excited for all of the new adventures this year will hold for me. I want to start this year with a bang and share with you one of my favorite portrait sessions from 2018 with the one and only Erika Delgado. Erika is a fantastic wedding photographer (you can see her work here)! She wanted portraits of herself to document a new season in her life, and celebrate her late mother, Lupe.

If you don’t know, I LOVE forming a concrete relationship with my clients the moment I am hired. I always send an initial questionnaire that helps us both in setting the intention for the session. More than anything, it brings me closer to my client and vice versa, which is pivotal when creating from an authentic place in your soul.

In her questionnaire, Erika shared her desires for her session with me:

“I’d like this shoot to be a tribute to my mother and the new season I’m entering in my life. I’m about to turn 30 and I feel more like my mother then ever. I am proud of the woman I am becoming and the character that my mother instilled in me and left with me forever… I’d like to look back on these photos years from now, show my own daughter and tell her about the hard days I faced then, but the beautiful lessons I learned, and the woman I was becoming. I’d like her to see a woman who loves life, loves to laugh, who encompasses strength, faith and perseverance.”

This portrait session was special. It was 110% intentional from beginning to end. As a photographer, it is always a dream to connect with clients that not only admire and respect your artistry, but also share a deep desire to create equally intentional work.

I have to admit, it was quite hard curating my favorite frames from my time with Erika. Throughout the session, I captured some portraits on the forever loved (and sadly discontinued) peel-a-part Fujifilm FP-3000b film using my Polaroid 195 land camera. You will also see some of those frames throughout this post.

I hope these portraits make you feel, and give you strength.
